I built this airplane from the Top Flite Gold Edition kit. It is made from balsa and plywood. It is fully sheeted except for the rudder and elevator. I covered the sheeted areas with 0.5 ounce fiberglass and Minwax Polyurethane, which is a water based coating. Then lightweight primer and sanded to fill the weave. Finished it with Warbird colors flat latex paint. The result is a lightweight, authentic finish.
Before I finished the build, I decided to convert the airplane to electric power. This airplane is powered by a Hobby King Aerodrive 5065, 320kV motor and a Plush 80 amp esc. Propeller is an APC 18x10. I have built in an access hatch on the top so that the battery pack can be changed without removing the wing or even turning the airplane upside down.
Weight without battery is 8 pounds, 6 ounces. My watt-meter shows 1000 watts plus at full throttle, giving well over 100+ watts per pound.
This airplane has never been flown and is ready to go. It is unique and beautiful.
