An indefatigable traveling painter, Paul Jouve (1878-1973) drew in the largest European zoos, traveled the Maghreb, the Far and Middle East, Africa, then America. The studies he brought back from his travels, of perfect technical quality and unparalleled power, fit perfectly into the Art Deco style.
Jouve will dedicate his life to the exaltation of the world of animals and will remain indisputable one of the masters of XXth century Animalier Art.. Recognized as such, his works are presented in collections belonging to the greatest museums in France and around the world.
This beautiful and elegantly matted and framed lithograph was painted in 1922 as indicated by his signature and date on the bottom right. The piece measures 54" w x 40" h and is quite heavy.
