I began teaching guitar at the Oregon School of Music and Dance in 1975. Since then I've taught privately and at music stores and camps, including MARS Music in Orlando and the Sunshine State Acoustic Music Camp in St. Petersburg. I teach a wide range of styles, from blues and rock to jazz, fingerstyle, and classical. Over the years I have developed a unique teaching method that allows students to progress quickly and learn musical concepts easily so they can play the music they love. I work with all ages and levels of experience.
I began playing when I was 10 in New York City. I started out playing folk and blues on acoustic guitar. When I moved to San Francisco in the 60’s I became a student of renowned jazz guitarist Jerry Hahn and later studied with John Stowell. I studied classical guitar with Marshall Hewitt (Lewis & Clark College in Portland OR) and with Eladio Sharron at UCF. I was introduced to fingerstlye picking by Toni Mendell. I'm an ASCAP writer and have composed songs for several albums, films and commercials.
Having a great teacher means having a coach to encourage you and guide you every step of the way. I appreciate the opportunity to help you reach your musical goals.
