.Barrelhouse jazz: An early form of jazz with an accented, two-beat rhythm, similar to boogie-woogie.
Sound: Often loud, uninhibited, and forcefully rhythmic, played in low-rent bars or "juke joints".
Rhythm section: The style is heavily dependent on a strong rhythmic foundation, often provided by the bass and drums, to drive the energetic, improvisational music.
If you can play this style pretty much all of roots music is at your fingertips which is cool and opens doors to other genres. Upright would be great but electric bass is not a deal breaker. Plenty of tunes and open to other R&B from the 40's through the 60s and the ever popular whatnot.
